Institute of World Religions: Malaysian Response to the Common Word

Muslims, a minority in Western Europe to foster better understanding and cooperation with their Christian neighbours created a document A Common Word Between Us and You in 2007. In this document 138 Muslim scholars, clerics and intellectuals clearly defined the commonalities Christians and Muslims had. The call to celebrate in this unifying factor over hostility was clearly expressed. No effort of this magnitude had ever been undertaken to enhance Christian Muslim relations and therefore this document had universal appeal. However in Malaysia the scenario is reversed. Christians are the minority in majority Muslim Malaysia. So the appeal now comes from the Christian community to fellow Muslims in Malaysia in the same manner as the Common Word. The Institute of World Religions of Seminari Theoloji Malaysia believe that an appropriate response be made in Christian Muslim relationship for Malaysia. Rev. Dr. Albert Walters the convenor, Rev. Denis Raj, Rev. Sivin Kit and Rev. Dr. Joseph Deva Komar helped create this document Journeying Together in Love and Peace.
