General Admisssion Requirements

  1. Students must be Christians in good standing with their churches, have a genuine desire for Christian service, and have attained the age of 20 in the first year of their course.
  2. Two years’ working experience is normally required except for those who possess a properly accredited university degree or equivalent qualification.
  3. Proficiency in English/Chinese/Bahasa Malaysia is necessary for the courses applied to in the respective language department. Those applying for the English department are required to sit an English language examination. It is advantageous for Chinese and Tamil stream students to read and converse in English. Proficiency in Tamil is applicable to Tamil TEE course.
  4. A recommendation from the pastor of the church is required.
  5. Single students are normally required to be residents.
  6. All students are to comply with the seminary rules.

Requirements for Admission and Graduation

  1. Diploma of Christian Ministry (DipCM) [re-introduced in 2015]
    This is a two-year programme of 66 credit hours for those with SPM/O’ Level or its equivalent. (An aggregate of 30 or less in the best five subjects and a Pass in English are required). UEC from Chinese high school is recognised.
  2. Bachelor of Theology (BTh) [Re-introduced in 2015]
    This is a four-year programme of 134 credit hours for those with SPM/O’ Level or its equivalent. (An aggregate of 30 or less in the best five subjects and a pass in English are required). UEC from Chinese high school is recognised.
  3. Diploma of Theology (DipTh)
    This is a two-year programme of 66 credit hours, for those with HSC/STPM/A’ Level (minimum, 2 Principal Passes plus 2 Subsidiary Passes) or its equivalent.
  4. Bachelor of Divinity (BD)
    This is a four-year programme of 134 credit hours for those with HSC/STPM/A’ Level (minimum, 2 Principal Passes plus 2 Subsidiary Passes) or its equivalent.
  5. Graduate Diploma of Christian Studies (GradDipCS)
    This is a one-year graduate study programme of 32 credit hours for graduates of recognised universities or those with equivalent qualifications.
  6. Master of Christian Studies (MCS)
    This is a two-year graduate study programme of 66 credit hours for graduates of recognised universities or those with equivalent qualifications.
  7. Master of Divinity (MDiv)
    This is a three-year graduate study programme of 100 credit hours for graduates of recognised universities or those with equivalent qualifications.
  1. Master of Ministry (MMin)
    This is a two-year postgraduate programme of 42 credit hours offered to pastors and church workers who possess a first degree in theological studies and have at least two years of ministerial experience. It is two years for full-time studies, and five to eight years for part-time studies.
  2. Doctor of Ministry (DMin)
    This is a 2 to 12-year postgraduate programme of 32 to 56 credit hours depending on the entrance level of the applicant. The programme is open to Master of Ministry, Master of Divinity, and Master of Theology degree holders.
  1. Master of Theology (MTh)
    The MTh degree is an advanced postgraduate research programme specially designed to provide specialised training in advanced theological research and teaching. It is open to those who have a strong first theological degree. The MTh can be taken either on a full-time or part-time basis.
  2. Doctor of Theology (DTheol) [ATU]
    This is the highest postgraduate, academic and research programme offered by ATESEA Theological Union (ATU), formerly known as SEAGST, for those who possess a good degree in Master of Theology or equivalent. Research students can enrol on a full-time or part-time basis. With effect from 2010, STM serves as one of the ATU Centres in offering this DTheol programme.

The admission requirements are the same as in-campus programmes unless specified.

  1. Certificate of Christian Ministry (CertCM) and Diploma of Christian Ministry (DipCM)
    • SPM Grade III certificate or its equivalent with an aggregate of 35 or less for the best 5 subjects. UEC from Chinese high school is recognised.
    • A strong commitment to Christian ministry and is actively involved in local church ministry.
    • Language proficiency, whether English, Mandarin, Tamil or BM.
    • Those who are 30 years old and above without the necessary academic qualifications may be considered for admission into the programme.
  2. Bachelor of Christian Ministry (BCM)
    • SPM/O’ Level or its equivalent with an aggregate of 30 or less for the best 5 subjects. UEC from Chinese High School is recognised.
    • STM’s DipCM (TEE) entry or its equivalent is recognised.
    • A strong commitment to Christian ministry and is actively involved in local church ministry.
    • Language proficiency, whether English, Mandarin, Tamil or BM.
    • Those who are 30 years old and above without the necessary academic qualifications may be considered for admission into the programme.
  3. Graduate Diploma of Christian Ministry (GradDipCM) and Master of Christian Ministry (MCM)
    • The prospective applicant should have a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or its equivalent.
    • A strong commitment to Christian ministry and is actively involved in local church ministry.
    • Language proficiency, whether English, Mandarin, Tamil or BM.
